Every year, our PCF team organizes the Trading Competition event with the aim of showing and learning about the trading side of the finance industry to the top students of our university. The event takes part at the University Campus with the collaboration of experts from the Barcelona Stock Exchange such as Damià Rey, Market Analysis Director at Bolsa de Barcelona. The event consists of two main parts:
1) "How will the future major challenges affect Capital Markets" It starts with a presentation based on a detailed analysis of the current economic and financial industry conditions. This is a great opportunity to get a clear and deep view of what has happened, what is happening, and what is most likely to happen. Moreover, the attendees are able to see the type of analysis process that should be done when looking at the economy and finance industry numbers. 2) Trading Competition Afterwards, it comes the trading competition itself. Each attendee gets a free account in an investment simulation platform. The money available in each portfolio is of 1,000,000€. The winner is the trader who achieves the highest performance over the trading period, usually 2 hours. During the competition attendees can ask the experts about insights into different trading strategies. This part is a great opportunity for the candidates to feel what is like to be a trader, to learn about the basics of trading strategies, to network with very talented people in the field, and lastly, to have fun along the process.
Founded in 1940, Uría Menéndez is one of the most prestigious international law firms. With a team made up of more than 500 lawyers distributed around 17 offices located in Europe, America and Asia, Uría Menéndez has been ranked as the first Spanish law firm by Chambers & Partners for the three last consecutive years. We have had the pleasure to receive them at the Pompeu Fabra University both the 17th and the 24th of May, and they also welcomed us to their offices the 26th of May.
During the first session, in our University, the partner Daniel Ripley and the junior associates Pau Panadés and Alexandra Mercader introduced to our students one of their administrative law cases. Afterwards they talked about a pro bono case where they worked giving legal advice, showing their more social side.
The second session was based on how to advise an entrepreneur from both a partner and a junior associate’s point of view, José Soria and Meritxell Sayol respectively.
Finally, we have been welcomed to their offices, located at Diagonal business area. The law students of our University have been delighted to talk to several new members of the firm, who have sincerely explained their own experiences and answered the enquiries of our inquisitive students.
This Uría Menéndez workshop has been very profitable according to the positive feedback we received form the attendants, who had the chance to get to know a bit deeper this firm.
